In a change to the previously advertised talk (“The Eagle Years”, which we hope to be able to host at a future date), we are very pleased to announce that Gary Spoors, a well-known personality in the UK aircraft preservation community, will be joining us to talk about his life in aircraft engineering and preservation.

Gary joined the RAF at 17, and was involved in engineering on types as varied as the VC10 (a type which came back into his life later!), the Buccaneer and the Wessex. After 12 years he left the RAF, joined British Airways and was licenced on the 747, which saw him, among other things serve 3 years as station engineer in Nairobi.

After another 12 years, Gary left BA and set up an aviation engineering and part-out business at St Athan, which is where he also co-founded SWAM (the South Wales Aviation Museum). We expect to hear quite a bit about this and the numerous interesting aircraft moves and recoveries that he has been involved in over recent years during what should be a very interesting talk!
