Duxford Aviation Society, with David Norman

  • Blackbushe Heritage Trust Camberley, England, GU17 9LQ United Kingdom (map)

This evening we’ll be hearing from David Norman, from the Civil Aircraft Section of The Duxford Aviation Society. They’re a partner organisation of The Imperial War Museum, responsible for the restoration and preservation of the 13 aircraft of the British Airliner Collection.

Notable aircraft that we can expect to hear about include G-AXDN, the fastest ever Concorde, DH Comet G-APDB, the first jet airliner to cross the Atlantic with fare-paying passengers, and Vickers Viscount G-ALWF, the oldest turbine-powered airliner in the world.

We will hear about how the post-war British airliner industry achieved a world-leading position and then lost it again, and how the Airliner Collection developed from a single aircraft in 1974 to those 13 examples of that history that it looks after today. Their individual stories will be covered, including the various ways that they all arrived at Duxford!

It promises to be another fascinating evening, and you can get your tickets in advance at £10pp here. All proceeds, of course, go towards the ongoing restoration of “Vagabond”!
